I have always, essentially, been waiting. Waiting to become something else, waiting to be that person I always thought I was on the verge of becoming, waiting for that life I thought I would have. In my head, I was always one step away. In high school, I was biding my time until I could become the college version of myself, the one my mind could see so clearly. In college, the post-college “adult” person was always looming in front of me, smarter, stronger, more organized. Then the married person, then the person I’d become when we have kids. For twenty years, literally, I have waited to become the thin version of myself, because that’s when life will really begin. And through all that waiting, here I am. My life is passing, day by day, and I am waiting for it to start. I am waiting for that time, that person, that event when my life will finally begin.
- Cold Tangerines, by Shauna Niequist
the thought behind this quote has come across my mind more than a few times the past couple of months. life seems to be one long waiting line sometimes, doesn't it? if you aren't waiting for one thing, you are waiting for another.
and then life goes by so quickly - and then what...?
every morning, i like to start my day off with some quiet time, reading my Bible and writing down prayers or personal thoughts. and lately, i have really wanted to make it a goal to savor each day. not to worry about tomorrow. not to freak out over the upcoming week. but to really, savor the day that i have been given - and that i savor the time with my family, friends or whoever i may come into contact with. and that might even mean, turning the phone on silent, switching the tv off, putting aside that magazine, delaying a blog post, and instead savoring that moment in life by making a Sonic Run with the sister, drinking my morning coffee with Mom, stopping to smell the roses (not literally though since it causes allergies for moi) or putting that to-do list down and blasting the music to dance in the kitchen. this is not easy for me - especially since i'm a planner. but i'm trying.
like a Polaroid camera.
capture that moment. seize it.
and savor it.
much love.
{happy tuesday, friend.}
p.s. i'm obsessed with this one step Polaroid camera! Ryan gave it to me during my visit to GA last week. the camera was his grandfather's, so i plan to take care of it like my own baby. i'm in luuuurve with it.
