hug a Best Buy Geek Squad member. they need a hug too every now and then.

poncho: belk / tank: f21 / orange denim: tjmaxx /nerd glasses: urban outfitters
farron boots: c/o Blowfish Shoes / watch: c/o Soft slap

isn't it funny when something you took completely from granted is taken away from, you realize how much of a miracle it really is...? or was?! like my laptop battery adapter. oh my goodness. the poor thing died over the weekend (it's probably as tired as i am this time of the year - who isn't tired these days?!) - and i'll admit it, i had a 20 minute panic attack. i scoured all the possible sites - amazon, best buy, ebay, dell - to see where i would be forced to spend all my christmas gift shopping money. (and of course, went into the next line of panic mood - who didn't need get a gift from me for christmas so that i could replace this darn adapter? just kidding, sorta, aunt helga.)

at the end of this tragic story, there turns out to be a happy ending. since i wasn't sitting in front of my laptop, i was able to finish up a chunk of my to-do list (including writing out those christmas cards and finishing up much love illy goodies to give as gifts). and i was also able to make a trip to Best Buy and found that they had a universal adapter for my ole Dell. i practically hugged the Best Buy Geek Squad member - told him that he pretty turned my day into Christmas morning. "oh, good - we like happy customers," he laughed. he looked surprised at my giddyness - so i assume they don't have many happy customers come in as of late.

and btw, next time you go into Best Buy (or into any of these retail store crazed with maniac Christmas shoppers), be sure to show them some Christmas joy. i think they might need an extra bit of it this time of year. just saying.

much love.
[happy monday, friend.]

p.s. one more day left - you don't wanna miss this giveaway. i promise.

Follow much love, illy

  1. It's amazing how many people are cranky this time a year and can come off as downright rude to customer service people.

It about made my day today when an older lady wished me a merry Christmas today at work - it's the first merry Christmas I've received.

  5. I love everything about this post! My boyfriend is a former Geek Squad guy and he dealt with so many mean, crazy people over the years. I still give him lots of hugs and love whenever he fixes my computer problems. It HAS to be frustrating (even if he still works on computers for a living)!

  7. You are so sweet! :) We have to remember WHO and WHAT this season is really about- it isn't about the gifts... but about Jesus... His birth- and the hope, grace, and love that he brought to us. Showing the joy He has given us is especially important during this season- and it bugs me that everyone just gets stressed out- and plain mean! So yay for you! :) I'm glad to hear you made someone's day. :)

Oh, and btw- you look adorbs.

    Love,

  11. I should have been nicer to some of the geekier peoplel in high school... cuz they have the power now... haha. You look great as per usual. I bought my last laptop at Best Buy just to have a place to take it for fixes. My Dell I just had to deal with people on the phone...whom I could not ever understand. Glad you got it all fixed. I see all these ponchos today...I'm going to have to find pix of "real" ponchos that we wore when they were first stylish when I was a wee girl in high school and email you a pic.

  12. I know exactly how you feel!! I felt that same way when my battery adapter died earlier this year. I'm glad you found one, and I'm glad you gave some happiness to the people at Best Buy! This time of year is tough on retail workers.

  16. My roommate works retail at the mall and it's so sad because Christmas used to be her favorite time of the year but because of the way customers treat her, it's become a source of anxiety :( Good word on being kind to those people!

  20. I would have paniced too! My first day here in France this year, my son and I were up watching movies because of jet lag. He said he was feeling sick and then, you guessed it, threw up on my NEW computer. I mean, I love the kid, but I was like 'you ok? MAN my computer!!!' haha just kidding. sort of. Computer's fine though, phew!
