meet my new best friend.

so good people, i totally caved.
with the birfday money i got from mom and dad, i bought myself a kindle.
and it's so weird to say but i am absolutely in LOVE with it.
i preached against it for so long (it's not the same. ereaders don't have the smell that real books have. you can't turn the page. you can't curl up with a book. blah. blah. blah.), i almost felt ashamed to say how happy it made me (totally looked over my shoulder while shopping at best buy). to be able to have a copy of a book in T-minus 10 seconds? i mean, come on. it's an absolute miracle (but might also be a danger to my bank account - yikes!).

so these were my first picks. all of these have been on my "to read" book list anyways - and i have been waiting for forever for Silence to come out (for those of you who are in love with book crush, Patch, know what i'm screaming - swoon!
he's up there in the same category as Edward. i inhaled this book in 2 days, people.)
and i started Delirium last night and am completely eating it up - will update!

Little Bookworm print via my friend, Jen of Lil Illustrator

i honestly don't see myself giving up books entirely. i see myself still being the grandma introducing actual books to her grandchildren. i also have a stack of books i plan to read and there really is nothing like curling up with a book. nothing in technology can replace even that. i think it's all about preference. you really can't go wrong.

much love.
[happy thursday, friend.]

p.s. have you entered the Gussy Sews giveaway?! don't miss out!

  1. I love my kindle dearly as well. I didn't think I would b/c I love the touch and feel of a book. Isn't it the greatest thing to have a book within 10 seconds? Hope you enjoy it.

  4. i like to think i've found a nice balance between books and my ebooks. i take my kindle with me on any type of travelling I do. But during the summer... I buy legit books. summer just means beach and a book.

  10. This post is making me rethink my stance against kindles... All of this coming from a book lover like yourself makes me think I should go out and buy a kindle right. now. =) I totally agree though-- there really is nothing that can replace curling up with a good book. That's gotta be one of the most relaxing/cozy things ever. Kindles can't be cozy. =)

  12. I totally felt the same way! I'm a librarian... I felt like I was cheating on my first love! :) I can't wait to hear how you like "Miss Peregrine's...". It's on my wishlist!

  14. I'm still pretty diehard about regular books. My Mom has a kindle and I haven't "fell victim" to it... yet hahaha buuuut now I have some new books I have to check out! yay! thanks!

  16. Wuthering Heights-horribly depressing but addicting and your so engaged with the language and character relationships you can't help but keep reading.
Oh and when I write horribly depressing I do not mean in anyway that I disliked it. I just got mildly depressed after reading it and almost cried (kinda cried) throughout the book....

    haha

Jane Eyre.. It set me aflame.
    ahhhh
    You shall love it!

I am interested in Silence and Delirium. I kinda gave up teen books a couple of years ago but realizing that the Twilight series was actually a Teen Novel (makes no sense btw) I guess I can't really let age keep me from a great read.

    Oh.
And welcome to the electronic side :)..
    enjoy!
love your photos too. Your gorgeous.

  22. I have a sony e-reader and I love it - reading is reading however you do it, either way I completely phase out and get lost in the words, I'm so in the zone when I read that I don't really notice whether its a book, reader or even my phone (for daily little women on the bus :D) I don't think it hurts to have both at all.

p.s. I adore wuthering heights! I'm looking forward to reading the others you've suggested though :)

  24. i felt the same way. i got one for x-mas last year and found out that i liked it a lot. i have so many books it's kind of too much. takes up a lot of space. so i've decided to buy only the books i love, love and from authors i love. jonathan safran foer is one o fmy favorite writers! that's a really great book. it's been almost 10 years since i've read it so i might to re-read it for the movie. great picks!!

  25. YAY! I'm excited for you! And don't you love how many free classics there are?! You will have to check your area for kindle library books. That is how I read "I am Number Four" last month! It will save your bank account that way!
Delirium is next in line for me as soon as I get some spending money!

  26. Oh, yay! I still prefer real books to Kindles, but I must admit - it's nice to be able to read using only one hand! I also really like having the kindle app on my phone so that I can read on the go without lugging books around everywhere.

  28. oh no!!!
    I can't believe you caved!! ;)
Almost my whole family has some sort of ereader or such and I just don't see myself buying one anytime soon.
But I love your book selection and I can't wait to hear how they are!!!

  30. Oh no, another caver! I like the way books smell, too :) I also want enough books to fill a library, and a Kindle would definitely make that goal difficult!

  31. I haven't caved yet but I can totally see the advantages to having one. I'm defintiely an instant gratification girl :) xoxo

  32. So glad to hear you love it! My first reaction was, okay I want one now too.:) Loved seeing some of my all time faves one there- Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre, go girl! And we'll be reading Incredibly Loud and Close (or whatever it's called) at the same time, because my paper copy should be arriving from Amazon today! Can't wait to discuss it with you! :)

  33. I never bee the biggest fan of the idea of ereaders but now I've read you post I might actually consider one!

  34. Reading is such a great activity! I think it was kind of wise of you to buy a Kindle rather than what I would have been tempted to buy (you know, shoes).

  36. Again, I love your hair in topknot/bun. Your hair must be thick because it holds so well. My hair by the afternoon looks like a hot mess.

I totally caved too. I didn't want to, I always said I would never stray from real books. But when my mother came to visit, she raved about her Kindle and then proceeded to by me a Kobo e-reader. I love it. It also helps me keep from cluttering the floor and bookshelf with a ton of books. Enjoy reading and as always, I look forward to any reviews you have on YA novels.

  37. I totally get it, I've been anti-kindle/any sort of e-reader for a LONG time... but lately, I've been wanting one. Badly. And I sort of feel ashamed. But they're just SO convenient!

Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close is the greatest. I need to read it again.
