i left my heart in the windy city.

for those of you who have been following my blog long enough know that my heart belongs in Chicago. for a military brat that moved around every three years, Chicago became home, residing there for eight years. so during our roadtrip a couple of weeks ago, my family and i made a pitstop (literally it was a pit-stop - a day and a half was way too short for a visit!) in the Windy City.

we got our fill of lots of good eats while in the city. do you see that glorious Chipotle burrito bowl? oh, man. it was heavenly, beyond heavenly. we don't have a Chipotle near us so we savored every piece of rice, cilantro, and salsa left in that bowl. also enjoyed some wowbao and jamba juice. yeaaaaa, baby.

i also got the chance to see a few friends which did my heart super good. it wasn't much time but just enough to encourage each other, laugh our stomachs out, and even reminiscence good times. sadly, the visits were so short, we didn't even pictures together - but it's okay. i'm just glad we were able to savor moments. sometimes, the camera needs to take a backseat while you live life.

and how can you visit Chicago without shopping at the Michigan mile? with what i had left over from hitting up in Mall of America, i spent at some of these lovely places. sadly, Topshop wasn't open yet but it was exciting to see it coming together. (my heart did break a little over the fact that Borders was no longer there. Ryan and i spent many cold winter afternoons, hanging out in the cafe and reading.) and not surprisingly, after tackling all of that shopping, my feet kiiiiiiilllled me. no exaggeration. my body is no longer in city-form anymore, sadly.

and the #1 reason why we were in Chicago? we were celebrating Ashley's 16th birthday! (can you believe she's 16 years?! i can't! time seriously goes by so fast.) i feel very blessed to have had the chance to have spent the past year with her while living at home. she is always making our family laugh and becoming more and more beautiful inside and out - love her so stinkin' much!

  4. YOU DON'T HAVE A CHIPOTLE? Oh my goodness, you poor thing. There's not much in little Portsmouth, NH, but we DO have a Chipotle, which I'm thankful for. Need me some tacos! Now that I'm mentioning it, I think I need to go there tomorrow...

  29. Yes, Chicago will always have part of your heart and rightly so!! :) And, a little sad that we didn't get a picture, but I kinda like that we just dived right into conversation like you never left and were oblivious to everything else! :)
