plaids, unhealthy eating, and staying warm (brrrrr!!).

chicago weather,
how dare you follow us south!?!

so in previous posts, you've heard me whine and wail about how much i miss chicago. well, i was speaking more about my friends and the city itself. definitely, most certainly not talking about a love for chicago's weather. but with that the temperature drop (and i mean, sudden temperature drop) in here in the south plus the bitter-cold wind, you'd think chicago followed us home!

plaid flannel: Belk
belt: forever21
jeans: aeropostle
gloves: Aldo (from swap!)
watch: Fossil
boots: madison/belk

now i know i'm obviously not dressed for that kind of weather in these pictures - but the temp wasn't too bad when ryan and i ran outside on his porch to take them. the wind was out there but i don't think the temperture was at its lowest. we def. felt it later that day when we ran errands - and i felt like our run to the car were similar to the sprints down the sidewalks of chicago. i did remind ryan that at least there's no snow here! the wind is pretty bad but ptl, there is no snow!

 in other news...

i'm so thankful to see Ryan this week. we didn't really plan on seeing each other till the end of the december but it turned out this his grandmother and aunt were visiting Savannah - so it was just a matter of me making a drive out there and riding back to GA with them.  (thanks so much, Allie and Tammy!)

Sweet Shot Day

the pics of us at Bass Pro crack me up. not the pictures themselves but the idea behind it. ryan loves that place - and i love it as much as he loves going to Jo-Ann's or any craft store with me. so as we drove up i said to ryan, "i'm so tiiiiiiiiired" which is what he tells me when i go to jo-ann's. at the end of the day, we really don't mind going to each other's favorite stores - but it's just fun to mess with each other.

another thing i love about this man is that we totally love the same kinds of food. (he says he loves that about me too. i'm not your typical health-freak girlfriend. which i sometimes wish i was, but i'm not.) on the drive back from him picking me up from his grandmother's, he surprised me with a dinner at Cracker Barrel. we LOVE cracker barrel. we missed it so much when we were in Chicago that we drove 2 hours away to indiana to find one. (that was an adventure in itself! you can read about it HERE.) we die for their buttermilk pancakes and amazing maple syrup. i'm in love with their hashbrown casserole and he digs their bacon. like i said, we love that place. oh and we totally love Panda Express too. with how cold it was yesterday, hot chinese food hit the spot for me - chow mein and orange chicken, baby!

last but not least...

going back to the plaid flannel i wore earlier in the day. not only does it make a warm addition to the wardrobe for the day, it makes a warm addition for PJs!! love my GA sweats. (gooooo dawgs! even though you stunk this year, i still love you.) however, i have this weird thing of not wearing things to bed that i wore out that day. kinda grosses me out. something like the germs you could have caught from the rest of the world could sleep with you that night creeps me out. either way, it was super warm to wear until i did go to bed and change into a night-shirt and hoodie.

quick side note...
and yes, this is what happens late at night - the tendency of taking pictures in mirrors. what else is one to do for an outfit post if a photographer or a tripod is no where to be found? answer me that. normally, ashley and i do it together. but since i'm in GA and she's in SC, i was on my own this particular night.

is anyone out there not freezing their butts off?
for those that are freezing, what do you like to do to stay warm?

much love.
[happy tuesday, friend.]

  3. my FAVORITE thing to do in the winter time [especially around christmas!] is to plug in the christmas lights, light some candles, and turn on the [fake] fireplace/space heater and curl up with my chihuahua and a book! it's so comfy, and the perfect way to spend a day in :)

  7. It is definitely cold here in Tulsa. My poor toes hate it so much! During the day its lots of tights and scarves for extra warmth. At night its soups, stews and chilis and raging fire in the fire place. And if its super cold then I knit on an afghan so that it will cover my legs as I work on it.

  26. hahaha Jordan and I did the same thing this weekend! He made me go to Cabela's with him for over an hour, which I'm convinced is equal to torture and should be illegal. But at least he couldn't complain when I took him to Michael's with me!!

  28. It is freezing here in Chicago. I just got back from my very long commute on the (very slow) red line, and I can't really feel my fingers. How am I staying warm? Despite my wool and thinsulate lined efforts, I am not!

  29. Ok..so you're responsible for this cold weather in the south? At least you have a cute outfit for it. I love your blog and the header. You have great style.

  32. That top is so cheerful and fun :D

I'm definitely all about the junk food, too. I've never been to a Cracker Barrel though. But I love breakfast food in general (as much as a vegetarian can, anyway) so it sounds pretty bomb to me based on what you're saying.

  33. I went back and read the post about finding the Cracker Barrel in Indiana. Good 'ole Indiana. :) That particular Cracker Barrel is about 25 minutes from me. But I never drive up there to eat.

And as a side note about Indiana, it's so much better than that swatch of highway running right past the Illinois state line. Seriously. That part is SUCH a horrible introduction to our state.
