current obsession wednesday: all things wedding planning

 and so {the planning} begins.

so the family (the whole bunch, daddy, mom, me and ashley) and i took a trip to savannah to check out wedding boutiques. and if you follow my twitter, you know that a particular dress caught my eye. i had them set it aside and will make a decision by early next week, but i have a good feeling the dress is the one! i have yet another boutique to check out in charleston, so we shall see. and my choice actually surprised me. it's not one that i'd expect to have walked out of the shop with, but once i put it on, i knew it was very me!

as you can tell, we had a little bit too much fun! a place with so many mirrors and many sweet dresses try on, how can you not go a little photo crazy. i wish i brought my little instant camera. boo. didn't think about it till later. will definitely bring it with me the next time!

so obviously once i found the dress, it somewhat kick started my whole wedding planning process for me. bookmark this link. rip out this page from the magazine. write down random idea on scrap of paper. email the fiance. talk to mom. text sister and bffs.

can you guess what this week's current obsession has been for me?
{wedding planning galour!}
so like i said, these are just ideas i've been jotting down or coming across so nothing is obviously set in stone.
and once things are more set in stone, i probably won't share it here.
i'm a fan of surprises so i think it'd just be more fun that way!
don't you think?

like my usual random, conscious stream of thought, here it goes. enjoy!

colorful vintage brooch bouquets:

paper goods, lots of details:

a good pair of colorful shoes for all parties involved:

creativity in every possible way:

lots of pictures with every kind of camera possible:
via amazon

cupcakes:
wedding inspirations:

handmade goodness:

a whole lotta laughter:

so there you have it, for now at least. what is going through my mind. lots of color. lots of creativity. lots of the unexpected. going with non-traditional. believe it or not, i already have a few things up my sleeve. will share all those details in good time. but for now, i continue to pin these inspirational thoughts on my imaginary bulletin board (aka blog-space).

{for those of you who have planned a wedding before,
what do you suggest is the best way to organize your ideas?
was it a blog? a planner? your mom?}

i have a good idea how i plan to, but any suggestions would be helpful!
thanks so much.
{happy wednesday, folks!}

  3. Congratulations!

    1. I did all my organizing online, in folders/documents/google documents. No paper here and I could share it with my fiance easily.

    2. Please check out Wedding Bee as a great blog & forum site, as well as A Practical Wedding if you haven't heard of them already!

    3. I just posted part 1 of how I saved on my wedding if you're interested :) http://swoodsonshoeclips.wordpress.com/2010/11/16/how-i-saved-money-on-my-wedding-part-one/

  7. Oh there is so much inspiration here. Finding the perfect dress feels so good doesn't it!? It should make you feel spectacular!

    I bet your wedding will be amazing with all the lovely handmade details and such.

    I had a 'wedding folder' which was basically just a folder with plastic sleeves and I put some cardboard bits between each area like dress, bridesmaids etc.

    But I also carried around a notebook to jot down ideas. Definitely have fun planning though! x

  10. I LOVE the vintage boquets that have been turning up lately! Such a creative idea -- AND easier to keep after the wedding! Something a future daughter might be able to use someday too! (much more reasonable than considering the dress being handed down, in my opinion!)

    Also LOVE the mustaches & whiskers in pictures...always makes me smile! Great ideas!

  13. I love all these ideas! Wedding planning is simply the best ever! (Though baby planning might be just as good...I'll keep you posted) So happy you found the (most likely) dress winner! That's so much fun.

    And for me, I just kept everything in a binder and folders in said binder. It helped a lot, keeping ripped magazines in order, and jotting down ideas or budget things I couldn't forget. Have you both set a date?

  25. so fun! i bet your dress is stunning! i love wedding planning, i journal-ed everything for mine as i get more satisfaction out of seeing things on paper. my mom did all the expense spreadsheets on the computer for me so i wasn't clueless. so, i focused on pretty and she focused on practical. :) have fun!

  26. I love all your inspiration photos! I kept a smaller planner, and printed out small pictures of my inspiration to keep inside. I'm also a lover of photography, so I collected tons of photos from blogs... ones with great color, arrangement and angles. My photographer printed smaller versions on the back of my "picture list", and I got every one of them taken on our day! Made me feel so much more relaxed and less stressed. :) Enjoy your time!

  27. That's so exciting! Wedding planning was the most fun! I actually started my blog when I was planning mine and also I ended up hiring a planner which was such a lifesaver. I was so involved with every single detail but it just made it easier to have someone to bounce things off of. And having the planners the day of was so invaluable.

    Can't wait to see how it all unfolds!!! xoxo

  28. Oh your wedding is going to be so gorgeous...I am so excited to see it all come together!

    I had a notebook that I wrote EVERYTHING down in so that it was all in one spot. It had pockets at the back that I put all my magazine pages, colour swatches, business cards, etc. in and it kept me pretty organized. I also had a folder on my computer dedicated to all things wedding so I could save pretty pictures there. Good luck, I'm sure it will all come together well!

  29. i bought a 'wedding planner/organizer' that is still blank in my closet somewhere. my mom and i each had a binder and i made tabs for different things and had plastic folders for info i was given. i put EVERYTHING in that binder. my mom was in the city where the wedding was, so she had one too, as she was often dealing with other things than myself. whatever you do, i think its important to have everything in one place and use it RELIGIOUSLY. i still refer back to my planning binder when people i know get married and want input/advice. :)

    happy planning!

    but as for organizing i got a lot of ideas on the internet and i made sure i saved the photo and site of my idea. and i printed the top 2-3 ideas and put them in their categories in a folder. not to fancy but it worked and i had to plan it in 2 months and it still worked out wonderfully!

  40. I had a big binder with dividers to organize my wedding. I also kept track of things online at theknot.com. There are tons of great websites out there where you can find unique wedding invitations and candles. I wanted everything to be unique, however later on I two girls I knew copy me and use the same bridesmaids dresses (same color and everything). One was actually nice and asked me if she could. The other didn't (she was a former best friend) gotta love being copycatted. My advice, do your best to make your wedding unique and original (which knowing you, it will be!) Happy planning!
    Always, Dalovins
